My guess would be corn borer? But that is only a guess from the tiny bit I know and I have no idea how to get rid of it.

Hey krintis - when I first read your post "title", all I could think about was that lady in that commercial on tv that says "Help, i've fallen and I can't get up!" and also the one about "thank god for life alert!" This was my second planting of corn before Fall. It was just beginning to send out tassels and little small corn was beginning to grow. Corn Doctor "kitkat5505" saved the day for a quick diagnose. However, I may have to pull every last one up because those suckers got in the stalk. Corn Borers come out in "JUNE". No way to kill them but that....it's gonna REALLY hurt to do that...(sigh).

EG-i was feeling just like them in the ads. I almost needed life alert because i almost had fallen and can't get up when i saw my corn on it's knees.
