Good morning to all. I'm having a terrible morning :-(

I've had way too many zucchinis this year and, trying not to be wasteful, I've prepared all that I couldn't force on my neighbor. I've made chocolate zucchini cakes, zucchini spice cakes, several different recipes of zucchini bread, a zucchini pie, fried zucchini at least once a week, zucchini-potato pancakes (fried). You get the picture. Well, I kept joking that every time I ate this stuff I was getting my daily servings of veggies. I got on the scale this morning, and the joke's on ME. I've gained over 20 pounds since April!

So..no more z-bread, z-cakes, fried-z for me. How sad.

What the? I get busy for a couple of days, and come back to a hooters convention. lol I've just had some bad luck for the past 2 days. I felt like a country song was playing over and over. Got my truck back today(it left me stranded), got some cleaning done before my wife's oldest son rolls into town (from Iraq), and i'm gonna go to visitation tonight on behalf of one of my good friend's early exit in this life. So, hopefully everything is gonna be back to normal (if there ever is normalcy in my life). I missed everyone also.....

I've gotten 43 so far off of my 4 plants, with at least 20 more to harvest in the next week or so.

To the over-the-shoulder, boulder-holder people - I've got some pretty good models out there now! One of them looks like that 1 boob chick on that funny martial arts movie.hee hee

Anyway, i'm not going anywhere. Somebody's gotta keep the crazy person in line.(You know who i'm talking about)

Speaking of trucks, I got my Ranger stuck in my back yard while unloading a yard of compost. I had to maneuver it down a 6' wide area between a hedge and a flower garden, through a 6' chain link gate, around the corner and into the back yard. No problem. But do you think I could make the turn to get it back out? No way. Mr. Husband had to cut down half of my lilac tree before we could extract that little truck from the back yard! I'll be hauling the next 2-3 yards of compost from the front driveway by wheelbarrow :-(

That's SOOO cool Angela! Somehow, a garden doesn't feel complete to me without tomatoes. I started a fall stupice, so we'll see if I can make a go of that. It grew three inches this week! There are two of them in the single six inch and I'm going to move them to an earthbox. I know I should clip one, but I just can't seem to make myself do it, it feels so wrong.

Granny, have you tried dehydrating those zucchini? I've been dehydrating them for soups, stews, and stir fries for two weeks now. I think a single zucchini plant will be enough for our family, but I'm going to continue to plant two for laying up for the wintertime.

I LOVE to see everyone's photos of their gardens! I think I'm overdoing it with the pictures I've been submitting the past couple of days, but the excitement of sharing should wear off before long. Medo, you needed to get more of that girl's head in the picture...I thought you were raising chickens when I first glanced at it!! LOL

carolynp, I have never tried drying zucchini. Actually, the only thing I've ever dried is fruit leather and venison jerky when my kids were still all at home (I raised five of them). I have only been using the veggies fresh, as I have a problem transporting them when we head for Arizona in October. We drive our Ford Ranger, with rabbit cage, one big cooler for bunny's fresh greens and a few perishables from the fridge, suitcases, computer, air compresser, large battery charger...well, you get the picture. No room for food. And this year we'll also have two almost full grown doxies along for the ride. Won't that be fun!

Granny - You need to install a winch on the front of that little truck. That way, you could always pull yourself out, especially if you and the hubs wanted to grab a few cold beers and go mud riding! Woo Doggie! That's so much fun! I'm thinking about having a wet tee shirt contest out at the garden. If I could get MTV to show up - we might have a taping for spring break next year! That'd be hilarious....it would go something like "Alright party people! give it up for Miss Sugar Baby......yeah, BOYEE!"

Carolyn - i'll tell him. I have to stock the fridge up with beer everytime he comes home. I take the cans of beer that he doesn't get to, and stick them up a chicken's butt - and let it sit on the grill for about 2 hours.MMMM...MMMM. Now, that's some good vittles!

Medo - what the? Did you just say doodie? Heh! My stepson is an Army Ranger, that did 3 tours to Iraq, then 1 to Afghanistan, and got out. He now works for Blackwater. It'll be good to see him. The political thing is unbelievable. I think all of them are on some type of controlled substance. You got any veggies in that garden? I think I saw some wildwood flower, but aint real positive about it.LOL

EG, when we're in AZ, we always travel with someone who does have a winch. Last year I tried to drive into an abandoned mine shaft (we estimated it to be about 500 feet deep), hit the brake just as the truck started over the edge. It was teetering with the front right wheel in space and the left rear wheel off the ground, and the guy with the winch hooked on the bumper and pulled it back. Whew, close call! Here's a pic of the Ranger on one of the better roads, we call this a highway!

That little Ranger has been in some unbelievable places. We bought a Jeep last year, but it doesn't perform half as well as the Ford, which is a 4x4 off road model. I think we'll sell the Jeep.

AG - have you tried freezing shredded zukes? I freeze those, along with some shredded carrots and make breads during the winter so that we don't tire of it all at once. (We like to spread out the torture.) Thaw in a colander so as not to soggy things up.

i do have some okra in there and some egg plants. in our new one's we're gonna put some more egg plants, tomato, and some other junk!! LOL they call food!! LOL in with compost, manuer, and lots of paper!! (shredded) so it will be interesting!!
i LOVE baked zuke but all spiced!! and it has to be cut kinda thick, maybe 1/2-1". no getting all the transfats, we use cooking spray. LOL why not slice them and freeze them?? or slice them, bake 10-15 then freeze? i don't know but i think it might last a bit for when your ready to use them?? i've never done that. YET!!!! LOL i'm a rule breaker!! can't ya tell??? LOL ~Medo

holly-2006 and Medo: Can't freeze them, no way to get them from here to AZ, not enough room in the pickup for another large cooler, and we shut down our freezer here for 6 months. But it's OK, my neighbor is using what I can't, and she's gifting me with jars of zuc relish and pickles.

Medo, I don't know of any driver. What I did when I lost some files that came with my computer was I went to the manufacturer's website and did a search for drivers until I FINALLY found the right file to download. If it is a zipped file, you would have to have a zip program to unzip it, but you can get one of those for free by googling for a "free zip program". I'm sorry that it isn't monkey easy, but hopefully you can recover the driver you need. I know what a pain it can be because we spent a small fortune getting our computer fixed after our toddler deleted some Windows files... the stupid thing might have been cheaper to just a buy a new one, but we needed some files that were on the old one, so we spent our hard-earned money to get it fixed professionally. Uggggggh

Medo - There are several reasons for my lack of sleep.
1. I get phone calls in the middle of the night from maintenance employees that have problems.
2. I have restless leg syndrome (it sux big time)
3. I sleep with a camel. My wife smokes, and coughs in my face in the middle of the night, usually spitting all over my face in the process. Like I said previously - I sleep with a camel.
4. I have so much brain activity, that it's hard to get it shut down. Really... All these weird things that I have stored in my cerebral hard drive, like - exothermic generation, latent heat of vaporization, coefficient of friction, hexadecimal to binary coded decimal calculations, all kinds of freaky stuff. I've even got the phone number for Nintendo Gameplayers Hotline stuck in my head, and I haven't called it in 20 years. It's 206-885-7529! I even went to a doctor about it! lol. I started telling him all the formulas and numbers stuck in my head, and he just said "hmmm...that's quite interesting". He asked me how I felt, and I told him I felt like Rainman,forrest gump, and scarface all wrapped up into one person. lol. Oh well, it's the OCPD thing....

EG, I have RLS and it's extremely annoying. We don't smoke any more, I quit about ten years ago and the husband hasn't smoked since way back in the 70s, but he snores and makes all those....ahem....OTHER noises that old men make, and has to get up eleventy-zillion times a night to go to the bathroom. I, on the other hand, nap on and off all night and the only way I seemed to get any sleep was to have the TV going, turned really low. That kept him awake. We finally decided we sleep better alone and he moved to the spare bedroom. Of course, we're old ferts so sleep is more important to us than some other things might be *g*. Now we have the two puppies, who have decided they like sleeping with me at night and napping with Grandpa in the afternoon. They're small, but boy are they bed hogs! They want to cuddle up close, and they are so darned warm I'm sweating half the night.

I bought some more 2x6x8' lumber today, over Mr. Husband's dead body. He just doesn't get the love of gardening. Anyway, I'll be out constructing a couple of new beds as soon as it cools down tonight. I've decided to only build three, two for raspberries and one for asparagus. I have about ten 4x4x5' fence posts from the old fence, so I thought maybe I'd use those for the strawberry bed. Maybe build two beds about 4'x4' each instead of one 8-foot bed. I think I have enough scrap lumber to make them tiered, which would be nice. I wish I could make all the beds twice the depth, but it's getting too $$$

well, if someone is giving some wood away, or rebuilding, you could ask them, my neighbor rebuild his deck, so i asked him what he was doing with his old wood they tore off, so he said i could have it, and they kept it in good shape!! i was so happy!! AND he's keeping them in his shed, he's just awesome!! :') isn't it funny how them men say "over my dead body", and then we do it, and they still are alive!! LOL so hubs don't say that!! LOL ~Medo

Medo, we had the wood from an entire deck stacked in our garage for years. Lovely 2x6 redwood. I got so tired of that big pile taking up so much space (not to mention the spiders and such living in it) I raised holy cain and made Mr. H give most of it away. So now I wish I had it back, and that's why he said I'd have to buy new stuff over his dead body. What I paid $8 a board for years ago is now over $20 a board! Needless to say, this time I didn't buy redwood!

boy do i agree with you on that one L!!! i have a "friend" over there, i met on here, and he's just nice, i never met him of course, but i only talked to him once and he seems pretty nice. i tell ya, these people who have no use for them over there, drive me nuts, i had a good friend, but i sent a few cool emails, and when i put in my opinion, ohhhhhh man, she was very much for the war, and we became not friends anymore. i very much am for our troops, don't get me wrong, but am not for the war, and that's where we got into it, she'd rather it be a thing of fighting over there and not on our front, i'm the same way, but i just don't see that happening. not yet. i don't see them as that gutsy yet. and i tell ya, from a womans standpoint, they are getting smarter!! using the weman and children, if it was me, that's exactly what i'd do. well, not the kids. no way. but the female's. and the kids as bait. i told grant if it was me, exactly what i'd do, he was like, YOU ARE DEVIOUS!! we'd be screwed!!! i hope they don't ever use my thoughts!!
