Did it have three leaflets like PI? A good picture sure might help.

I think you showed me the plant at the swap, and though I couldn't ID it then, I thought it might be (and couldn't think of the name to save my life) sumac. It's that height, fuzzy similar leaves and gets reddish berries... Good luck!

Which sumac did you have in mind? Rhus aromatica (Fragrant Sumac) maybe? That's about the only one I can think of that's similar to PI and would be likely to be found in this area.

Well, it looks like Google's pics of both aromatica AND trilobata, but it comes down to size, I guess. What I've read so far says aromatica only gets about 3 feet tall, and this was around 10 feet.

If I had to bet, I'd bet it was aromatica. That species commonly gets around 6' tall, and is known to be quite variable in size.

If it was trilobata, it would just about have to have been a cultivated plant. That species has not been reported to grow naturally (as an introduced species) anywhere in TN.

Anyway, it sounds like you have it pretty much narrowed down. I was just curious.
