Squirrels can be very destructive. Some species of squirrels fairly commonly kill even large trees by stripping the bark off.

You can buy repellent, but you have to reapply it over and over. A cat or dog might help move them along. Those are the only way I know of to prevent the damage other than killing the squirrels (which I couldn't do).

I did not know squirrels were so destructive. The worst thing I have seen them do is dig up plants, which is bad enough. A friend of mine is going beserk because his perennials are dug and in the place of the plant, he will find a walnut. Little stinkers!

My gsd and cat keep them in check.

You could invest in a humane trap and relocate the squirrel. We have a couple of size traps and have done this many times (never with a squirrel, though).

I have some chipmunks who are wreaking havoc. We don't have a chipmunk-sized trap, but I think we may get one before the summer is out. I have dozens upon dozens of little holes poked in my garden. I guess they are aerating the soil for me...

I don't know about TN, but, in many places, relocating wild animals (including squirrels) without a special license is illegal. You might want to look into it before relocating the squirrel. It seems more humane, but there can be a variety of problems (including for the squirrel) with doing it. That said, I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I just think it's important to know that there may be a downside.
