Just looked peonies up the other day on Google. It said to
divide them in Sept. Guess that would be the same as
planting. Good luck with them, mine are so pretty now.

Thanks Norm....I always enjoy reading your posts....I really think it would stress them out to move them just as they're beginning to bloom...having to literally burn the candle at both ends. I may move a few plants now just to see how they do and leave the rest until September. I already had a couple of nice plants; an unknown double pink (which was a pass-along plant from my dear Aunt and is at least 30-35 yrs old); and a 'Bowl of Beauty' that took several years before a I got blooms, but it now blooms prolifically. I've since added two tree-peonies and three unknowns. I can't wait to see them bloom. --Terry

Terry you could transplant some of those to pots and bring them to the Swap!

Terry -- Peonies will survive nearly anything. Yes, September would be much *better* for them -- but if it's a question of dividing them now or not at all, then go ahead and do it now. They'll get over it eventually!

I'm no expert, but I had to transport some peonies at my new house that I didn't know where there until they came up. I moved them in late March, before the blooms had set, and they wilted but have recovered fine. The blooms appear to have been aborted, though.

I agree that peonies are rather hardy plants, and should survive the move. I'm going to transplant some now, and I'll keep you posted on how they do. As always, thanks for the helpful advice.
