I feel ya... I carefully bagged my precious five remaining nectarines after the birds got the other two; it was a bad year with the rains during blossom time, and seven was all the tree had to start with. Then I go out to harvest and find out that some critter pulled one bag clean off and got away with two! I suspect raccoons, sneaky bastids. The last three nectarines are the best I've ever tasted... sigh.

Off topic, I know, but I'd feel the same way if it had been my tomatoes. Deer are horrible pests.

It's not too late to replant the cukes, and the tomato plants will make more fruit... just focus on defending your territory, and maybe you won't have to hit the produce stand too often. :)

Thank you for the encouragement Alison. I am not even brave enough to try fruit trees. I picked up 3 half eaten pears from my yard today. They came from our next door neighbor. I just need my tomatoes. On the bright side they are setting more fruit even with these high temps. :)

Update on my worst tomato year ever.....I tried to cheap out this year because we were watching our pennies (AND I was very late putting my plants out) so I bought 5 differently labeled plants at Lowes. ( $.99 for a good sized plant in a nice sized starter plantable pot) I thought what a deal, how bad can they be? ALL 5 plants have ended up being salad sized tomatoes NOT the "early girl", "better boy", "big beef", "jet star" and "golden boy" they were marked. At first I thought it had to be the hot weather but I am beginning to think differently now.

I am just having to laugh at myself. Every year is a new learning experience
