I LOVE mullein. My Mom (90 yrs. old next month) laughs at me, but they give me joy, and they do not reseed rampantly in this mountain environment.

The unwanted seedlings are easy to pull up while they are young.

Verbascum thapsus (Mullein) is listed as a rank 2 (significant threat) exotic invasive plant by the TN-EPPC. They recommend rank 2 species "be controlled and managed in the early stages of detection when possible".

We've got one and Lavonne dogs me out about it all the time, "It's just a weed!" Well I like it and since I do all the gardening it stays. I wouldn't want a dozen of them but one is cool!

I like it too. I have one in the back that's almost 8 ft tall. It's great to attract small birds like goldfinches. Like split zones said, it's easy to pull up the seedlings.

I have one that my mother gave me. It is listed in my garden herb book. It states that they are 6' in height (that is how big my mother's are, at least!). It has medicinal purposes, but is cautioned as most of the plant is slightly toxic. The flowers are used for yellow dye.

They have a huge flower stalk on them.Soldiers used to use
the leaves as bandages and tucked into shoes for warmth.
They used the dried stalks as light torches.I thought they were lambs ears as well when I first saw them.They get a pretty yellow flower.
