How wet has it been this year in your area of TN? The reason I ask is my summer so far has been almost too wet and my hibiscus is not happy from all the wet.

Well, it is in a damp area but I don't think E TN has been particularly wet this year. But, I have 2 others and they are just fine so maybe you are right. I'll keep my fingers crossed because this one is a beauty usually. Thanks.

If you are concerned about losing this one hibiscus, could you take cuttings to root to make sure you retain this particular plant? Anyone had experience rooting hibiscus cuttings?

I was just at a friend's house yesterday who has hardy hibiscus in 2 different places, one in the bog to her garden pond and one just in the ground. The one in the bog looks like "Night of the Triffyds (sp?)," while the one in the ground just looks ok but not nearly as many blooms--- so I doubt it's too much water that's causing your problem.

Ummmm.......hibiscus LOVE wet. I grow most of mine in water gardens. OTOH, some of mine (not in water gardens) are dropping buds from being too dry this year.

Unfortunately, evidently hardy hibiscus are difficult to root. I've rooted tropical hibiscus with no problem, but I tried several different hardies last summer with NO success. It may just be me....or they may actually be tough. But you CAN start them from divisions, once they have several crowns.

Well, thanks for the info. My plant sits in an area that is kept damp with drainage from my neighbor's lawn (he waters a lot!) I think I'll trim off the dead stuff and tie it up to try to keep it decent looking and when the blossoms stop, dig it up and investigate. My little voice is telling me that Mr. Vole is at it again. My sister and I save the seed from our Hibiscus. That way we always have the plant. So for the seed have been true
to our Hibiscus.
