I built (3) handicapped accessible raised beds on the site of the Memphis fall swap, so you can have both at the same time.

The Swap is 01-NOV-2008

The beds (according to the plans) are 4-feet x 8-feet x 28-inches tall and you can comfortably work at them from a chair, wheel-chair, or standing, or add a sitting board around the perimeter. \

Filling them with soil, was a royal PAIN!!!

My beds are 8" high and I use a rolling garden cart I bought at Harbor Freight on Summer to sit and roll around the beds. I wish the beds were taller because I still have to do some bending.
The taller the bed the more soil your must use. As to drying out faster, it depends upon on the soil you put in them. I put Miracle Gro Garden Soil in the first six I built and it was expensive. It is a great product full of rich components but water goes through it like a sieve. I have started mixing plain old dirt in them and it holds the the moisture better.

I dont have much if anything to trade but I can bring food/drinks or whatever is needed and also if just anyone needs a hand to help set up I would be glad to help.

also if anyone is bringing any crape myrtle cuttings Id love to get a couple:)

Bring what you have, or nothing at all, and that is just fine. it is more of a social gardening event than a shopping spree.

We will have a pot-luck lunch so bring a dish.

I'll be there about 0630 to get the griddle fired up for the pancake breakfast. Bring your favorite mix-in's for the pancakes (fruits berries, nuts etc.)
