I heard on the TV weather that, although we haven't been as far behind on our yearly rain total as last year, this has been the driest August in history for the area.

Most of my trees are looking okay. The oaks and hickories don't seem badly affected. There is a type of small understory tree that I haven't ID'd yet that is turning yellow, along with some stressed sumac and sassafras. A lot of cedars on the property died last year -- I haven't really looked to see if any more are dying this year.

Dead walnut trees are everywhere! Tulip Poplars are looking pretty rough.

you may have a chance with your walnuts to come back. On our property our walnuts are among the first to drop leaves from drought (not have the leaves die up on the branches) and in past droughts, the walnuts are the first to put out new leaves after good rains.

I'm really going to have to cut back our peach trees hard this fall. They'll be bare in the next month or so if the leaves keep dropping like they have been. We only have two but this spring brought out the best crop we've ever had. I'm sure that we got 100 pounds per tree easy.

The rest of the trees are fine, knock wood, but the Yews and Mugo's are taking a tough hit for the second year in a row and we may lose one of each.

We lost all four Dwarf Alberta Blue Spruce's last year and that hurt to the tune of $200+.
