Not only is mid October not too late, it's the ideal time! Most perennials, shrubs, and trees do best when planted in mid fall after temps start to fall.

What type of Euonymous are you looking at? There are many Euonymous with pretty big downfalls IMHO. Choose carefully to avoid unwanted qualities / problems.

Thanks for the reply Brandon! I'm glad to hear that mid October is not too late. I'm still not sure what I'm going to plant. We have some type of Euonymous in the backyard that was there when we moved in and other than a little bit of mildew now and then it grows really fast and seems to do well. I'm trying to cover an ugly chainlink fence, so I want something that will create an effective screen and that will do so as quickly as possible. I'll eventually plant something in front of the hedge to make it look nicer with more variety, but for now I really just want to get that fence covered up, or at least partially so.

Any suggestions for types of Euonymous or other shrubs that might work? My biggest concern is that it is evergreen.
