I'd select an area rug that incorporates the earth tones and the wine in a pattern that won't compete with the ottoman, but supports it. Here a few to consider they all incorporate the colors from your palette and have patterning that allows the ottoman to be the feature. You can find them all and hundreds more ant MondernRugs.com.

I would think about a floor mirror for the left side of the fireplace, a collection of simple sculptures for the mantle, and a collection of black and white photo prints art other art for the right side of the fireplace. I thinkk it will be a good look with your sophisticated, contemporary styled furnishings.

I'd definitely recommend a wall decal from www.tradingphrases.com for your blank walls- they look painted on (with very minimal work) and wouldn't take up any more room. Also, a mirror to bounce light around.

As far as the rug- go solid color, you already have pattern with the zebra. LOVE the ceiling panels, they are gorgeous! If it were me I'd rip out the carpet totally and put down pergo- if you are already spending 300+ on a new large rug you might as well floor the whole room :) Hehe

I agree with getting rid of the carpet, you could use a shaggy area rug or sisal under the cool zebra. black and white art and I love the idea of a floor mirror. Keeping with the eclectic look pillows of old kilems on the sofa would be great.

The rug looks like a pale taupe color. If so, a neutral like the attached flokati rug would look great. I'd choose a picture similar to the attached with clean lines for above the fireplace and flank the fireplace with a tree similar to the dracaena also attached.

I appreciate all the decorating ideas. Will research base on some of your comments and post updated photos. Unfortunately replacing the carpet is in my budget and I have hardwood on the first floor, which the family room is right next to.

I'm thinking of painting the wall with the fireplace and the inside of the coffer ceilings a brown suede texture or gold color or maybe butter color to add more warmth? With all the cream walls it seems a bit blah blah to me. Also thinking of adding antelope or deer heads somewhere in the room. I thought maybe a Persian or a deep red tone based area rug with gold and tans/creams. I love the modern meets rustic look. Thanks again and feel free to chime on my latest questions.

I agree with manon, a modern rug...something with some hint if silk for some glitz. The room now is flat and too masculine with all of the leather and hide. Get the area rug first before deciding on art or leg mirror above the fp. Drapery would add a level of interest and warmth. Get some nice table lamps and my opinion is that the decal is the wrong direction...not sophisticated.

Thanks. I agree with you on the silk rug. Been looking,but woo weee they are so expensive. Also thought of adding some silver accent pieces for glitz. As for drapes, floor to ceiling drapes with the accent wall color and black trim. Will take you advice and find the rug first.

Rug first! Yes! Lamps on some tables a must - you have the sad plant on mantle but add a couple of dramatic plants in gorgeous planters to bring life to the room -and show off the ottoman . .
