Is the Iochroma Cyaneum Poison. I would like to grow them. They are just beautiful. I would appreciate any info on them. I looked on different web sites, but none of them say anything about their properties.
If you grow tomatoes without fear of being poisoned, you can grow this as well. Also petunias and eggplant. All these plants are in the solanacae family, and all have parts that are poisonous.
I have a large one that is over 10 years old. I also have dogs, cats and a free ranging tortoise. The hummers love the nectar and not one creature or person has ever been poisoned by it.
Thanks everyone for the information. I do grow tomatoes and petunias and all, guess I just need to know what is and what is not. I have a ton of grandchildren, want them safe. I guess I'll stop worrying so such.( I still will) I have a koi pond that I watch like a hawk when the sweet one are at my house. Thanks again everyone, I'm going to order 2 in the morning, that is if I can get up after this late night at my PC. Thanks, Hummingbird
Something is lacking in my soil as my Iochromas will not bloom here in the Houston area.I have 3 different kinds and when I fed them sulfer and another acid conditioner they made a few blooms, just not enough to look good and a waste of my time and effort.I intent to dig them up and forget about them, even though I did love the blooms in the pictures I saw.If it does not love you back and produce blooms it is no good.Jessie
I have several of these in pots that bloom nicely- even the small cuttings bloom. The ones I put in the ground have refused to bloom. I can’t figure it out.
