White Fantasy (Super White) is a great choice for kitchen countertops. Under normal use, it will resist scratching and staining. It is commonly referred to as a quartzite, but geologically, I am fairly certain is actually a dolomite. We often refer to it as a "hard" marble. A real quartzite is at least 90% quartz which makes it basically scratch-proof, which White Fantasy is not. However, it remains a very popular and more practical option for those who are afraid to use the more traditional white marbles.

These days, most slabs are resined when the material is processed giving them an initial protective coating, but we always recommend sealing the slabs again.

I would encourage you to work with a reputable fabricator, and/or supplier to select only the best quality slabs. They can also recommend a good sealer. 3cm thickness should be strong enough to cantilever without concern for breaking, but this should be discussed with the fabricator who is the best one to asses the quality of the slab and how it will be used.
