Black magic overwinter?

Hi everyone

Last year I tried to overwinter colocasia black magic like I do every other EE. I dig up the bulbs, knock the dirt off and place in a cool spot in my basement. I wasn't sure if this technique would work for a water plant, but I tried it anyway. Long story short: it didn't make it. Is there a way to keep these guys alive, or do I have to keep buying these suckers every spring?

Thank you

Mike

I too would like to know the best way. I've overwintered my X. 'Lime Zinger' in a pot kept rather dry and in a dark, cool frost-free garage. I'm wondering whether 'Black Magic' would fare OK this way too. Mine is about 7 feet tall and I really want to save this plant. I've heard of wintering over EEs in a bucket of water all winter. While I think this would work for most of the runners, I'm not sure it would work for Black Magic.

Dave-

Black Magic was the 1st one I overwintered in water- remember NO soil, no dead leaves, in a bucket of water in bright cool spot. 100% success with Black Magic this way.

Xanthosoma do best stored DRY and cool

Thanks Joe,

I think you need to make a list -- LOL!

How cold can the water get? Just above freezing?
