I believe 'Eggo' in Long Beach had a tamarind tree that was planted out. I think it was a sweet tamarind not the sour. The trees themselves are beautiful specimens.

I have one (in south Florida) that sprouted last fall, and is only ~12" tall and it seems to grow rather slowly.

I think that other than the humidity we have here, our climate is similar as far as temperatures go and I know of several Tamarinds that are fully mature and are pretty happy here.

I have even read that south Florida has a LOT of tamarinds but there are so many trees with pods it's hard to tell which are which whilst driving by.

Oh, I tried to sprout over 100 "sweet" tamarind seeds, could not get one going, though the original sourish ones have been rather easy.

That's amazing, and I'm very happy to see that. I have 3 sweet tamarind trees growing well in containers. I started them from seeds about 2-3 years ago. They're about 6' tall. The leaves and branches are beautiful. How old is yours? Do you have to protect it, indoor wintering??

There is one in San Diego about 25' tall. Not too wide. Most tree's with pinnate leafs tend to be spreaders. This tree isn't.

Some of my tamarinds are growing wider than tall, but some grow taller. It seems that light affects that.
