Nam Doc Mai is a polyembryonic mango and when planted, the seed will produce several seedlings most of which will produce fruit that is true to type. Trees propagated by grafting will come into production earlier, producing fruit 1 to 2 years after planting. Seedlings can take up to 5 years to fruit.

Thanks so much for reading into my question what I actually wanted to know. I realized it after I sent it. That is was duh. Anyway I'm glad to know that seedling produce fruit that is true to type. Also I didn't know it would produce more than one seedling. How does that happen?

The only problem is that of the muliple seedlings usually only one survives. The one that survives is almost always the most vigorous seedling which is supposed to be the one that will not come true. I usually try to seperate the seedlings about a week after they sprout, but even then most of the smaller ones die off. I have only been able to get more than one seedling to survive on 3 out of about 25 seeds planted now. Good luck, I hope yours do better than mine.

Very few mangoes produce true......nam doc mai is one of the exceptions. Tho people in florida have been planting Mango seeds in Florida before you could easily get grafted trees and still get a tree that usually priduces good tasting fruit.
