mine is in a pot and is going great.
i didnt know about water myself for a while,
so i watched carefully,
and lots of water, or no water for days didnt seem to phase it either way.
recently i read a post from someone i consider a tropical fruit guru.
he said they can take LOTS of water, and are indigenous to places that flood for weeks at a time.
The tree prefers a slightly acid soil, but i am thinking your manure should have made it slightly acid.
do you know the PH ?

i have heard of iron, phosphorus, magnesium and sulfur being used to help them.
the iron and the sulfur can also help regulate (lower) pH
simple epsom salt (i get mine from the $1 store)
will give them magnesium and sulfur !
(it is magnesium sulfate, and it dissolves very easily)
i use a tablespoon in 2 gallons of water.
i love EPSOM.
tomatoes take off with it. Papaya love it too.
cant beat 1$ for several ounces

i had iron as a vitamin pill,, so i broke it in 1/2
i used 1 half for a foliar spray, and the other 1/2 in a gallon of water
and watered several plants. it brought my bell pepper, blueberry and grumichama all back to life :)

you may want to read this....

too much sun can cause yellowing
but, supposedly, not a big problem
(personally, ive seen empom fix yellow leaves with other plants)

also, chlorine from city water is supposedly bad
but mine gets about %20 city water, no problems.

if it is a micronutrient
worm tea (or even compost tea) could be a great benefit.
worm tea seems to fix almost any soil type problem.

i would also add some compost to the soil
to keep moisture in, weeds out and add nutrients
it will keep the soil moist after a rain
so you dont have to use city water as often.
