Yup, my "Christmas" loquat erupted in flowers a couple of weeks ago. Mine is in the ground a few years and has yet to bloom at the same time every year.

Strange! I just ran outside to look at mine. I'm also in Z10 but in Southern California. No buds here.
What do you think jump-started them?

The only thing that's changed here is rain. It's always hot and humid in the summer so next season I'm going to track the weather a bit more.

Last year I had a rain barrel near my loquat and when there was no rain for several days I dumped water on it. We have had rain just about every day for many weeks. Maybe it's a wet following a dry spell, or a dry following a wet?

I know California is very different than Florida when it comes to gardening, but my Big Jim Loquat has unopened flower buds on about half the tree right now and came looking for answers why. It normally flowers shortly after the new year and fruits in April for me. We had very little rain this past winter and I have only been giving it supplemental irrigation about once a month to keep it alive since they are supposed to be able to handle dry conditions. I was wondering if lack of water/ drought stress is inducing the flowering.

Like gnappi, mine's been getting plenty of water!

Mine flushed out loads of blooms in late Aug also. I figured the constant rains triggered the early bloom.
I'm in Stuart Fl and we pick the fruit in late Feb to early March. That may change this year...
