Cuphea schumanii

For those who received Cuphea schumanii plants at Garden Frog's WNY plant swap this year, did your plants bloom?

It was my first year to grow this plant (from seed) so I wasn't sure what to expect. Mine bloomed much sooner in containers. The ones that I planted in the garden just started to bloom a few weeks ago and then it turned cold so I have had very few blooms. From outher I checked with on my Hummingbird forum they said that the plants bloom sooner the second year and they bloom even earlier when they get pot bound. I have 9 or 10 of my original seedlings now in the kitchen that I am going to try and keep alive over the winter. They are still in 3 inch pots and blooming well. I will probably cut them all back during the winter so that they are bushier for next spring. Hopefully I will have a few for next year' swap.

BTW, cuttings root very easily so if you got one this spring and still have it take take a couple of cuttings for next year..
