I live near Stuart and fish the mountains all the way to Bristol. Chiggers are a problem in grass above the ankle. As long as I spray my ankles (tuck legs into socks) and around my waist, I do not get chiggers or ticks. These are vicious and very tiny ticks that are hard to see until they start itching. They seem to go for the scrotum area and itch like a chigger. I despise them. Ticks and chiggers are bad everywhere in rural VA. But fortunately, not many mosquitos, like it is in the coastal area.
