Not sure if they still have them but I got mine years ago from Going Bananas in South Dade, Florida. Also, Excalibur had them at one point.

If you check with Going Bananas...check on a lychee they call Garnet. I highly recommend it. Here are a couple pictures of mine.

Hi Brad.....I bought the tree about 12 years ago. It came in a 3 gallon pot. The fruit is large with a small...but not always "chicken tongue" sized seed. There is an excellent seed to flesh ratio and a really nice flowery aroma. It doesn't have the medicinal taste that some lychess have and is only mildly sub-acid in flavor....in other words...more sweet that tart. BTW, this tree had a big problem with chlorosis and some beetles eating the leaves. It is making a come back. While I have some varieties that look worse...most of my trees are in much better condition than this one.

Oh..so nice. My lychee is blooming now. Is this normal? I live in PA...lol. Hopefully the blooms will stay on and make it to fruits....lol

I'm a lychee fanatic but living in NY, i havent gotten to taste any of the more uncommon lychees. which other less common varities do you have. would you be willing to sell me some of your fruit in may and june and overnight it to NY?

My mango tree that I got in FL in July did the same thing. Normally it would bloom around Jan-Feb in FL but because I left it out during the end of summer when the temperatures cooled off it bloomed. That is what makes them bloom(I am sure you knew that). I was shocked to see it myself but I asked Harry about it and he told me it was probobly the cool weather. In FL there temps cool down in Dec thru Jan depending on where you live in FL. I have not decided what I am going to do with the small mango that are growing. I know the best thing to do would be to let them grow till they are marble size and then cut them off. I will do that but I will leave a couple so I can hopefully have at least one to try.

Brad.....missed your other question about tree size. For perspective, the chain link fence next to it is 5 feet tall.

Lycheeluva......I have never shipped any, but would be willing to give it a try next season. I sell them locally to folks that have come to know me....remind me and we'll set up a shipment. I also have Kaimana, Bengal, Peerless, Early Large Red, Ohia, Ohia Red, Seymour, Mauritius, Bosworth 3 (Kwai Mai Pink), Bosworth, Sweeheart, Brewster, Farwell Ranch and Hak Ip. They all don't bear each year, but between the variety and the number of trees I have, I usually have more lychee fruit than I can eat or sell.

Wow Harry that is quite a collection of lychee's. Put me on the list as well for buying some when the time comes. I'll pay almost anything for some. So far I have been driving down to Excalibur to get mine once a year but that gets pretty costly between the gas/tolls/and actually paying for the fruit. I am hoping my trees produce a few this season. They all have put out a nice amount of growth this summer.

WOW.

I must confess that I don't think I could wait twelve more years -- so, last summer I got a fairly large Sweet Heart.

It, too, is having some problem with a little frosted green bug.

But, I just invested in a new MIRACLE JUICE called Atomic Grow. It is supposed to give the tree a shot-in-the-arm, systemically. It is applied in a spray, very sparingly. But, it is also supposed to kill chewing insects. (Sounds suspiciously like Neem.)

My anxiety with the tree is that the new growth has still not flushed. The new growth has been sitting at the tips of the branches in tight, light-olive, squished leaflets. This Atomic Grow is supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread (Or so they say.) Coincidentally, a couple of new real leaves have sprung out, so I won't know whom to credit. Mother Nature -- or Atomic Grow.

I asked about posting photos because there is space for only one URL at the bottom of the page. How do you get several in?

I didn't realize Lychee could grow in Southern California. It's on my list now. There is a restaurant in Orange County, CA that serves Lychee's on ice with some orange slices for dessert. YUM!
