First "Before" Pictures of our new home; work starts this week!
Comments (41)Congratulations! We just had our floors refinished and new wood flooring laid in the kitchen. I'm disappointed because the stain looks more brown than grey over the red oak, but that I can live with. Unfortunately, it seems we got a bad batch of new Armstrong Bruce Hardwood Flooring. It is full of what I can only describe as "worm holes"...the worst of which is smack dab in the middle of the floor, where everyone can see it -- looks like someone dropped a cigarette butt. I asked about what the flooring company can do to fix it, and they said the entire kitchen would have to be re-sanded and stained again. Ridiculous! So we are trying to come up with a solution. Very frustrating. There are also dark marks right near the entrance which the installer blamed on "mineral spirits"....See MoreProperty Line Disputes?
Comments (161)That is totally ridiculous! The neighbor had to have known they were out of line in placing the building in that location. Although I wouldn't do it, I do love to think about appropriately mean responses to such provocations. How about just now noticing that the side yard is excellent storage space...perhaps a cord of firewood in a rack on the property line? Or a stack of bricks? That storage building wouldn't pass in my locality. Our regulations require minimum 4 feet distance from existing building and 3 feet from rear property line and 4(?) feet from side property line. You may wish to inquire about setbacks in your area as perhaps a governental bad guy could keep you from needing to be the grumpy neighbor. I see that shed is clearly visible from the street so it wouldn't necessarily be you that pointed out the eyesore to the local authorities....See MoreNeed help choosing a color for my sons room
Comments (10)terrij - if colors could fix tantrums all mothers would love it you want the book "raising your spirited child" = it is so accurate / popular it is in its 10th printing or so in paperback written by a pro who also happens to be the loving mother of a spirited child . . a true teal is too dark for a kids room unless it is an accent stripe Maybe go for a tone that pairs well- bm harbor haze and add a fun teal horizontal rugby stripe on the headboard wall like bm new providence navy http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/harborhaze http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/newprovidencenavy#ce_s=new providence...See MorePOLL: Which kitchen design trend will become the new norm?
Comments (178)Celestina: 1. From the Miele Australia website: "The Sensor wash/Automatic programme uses as little as 6.5 litres* of water - significantly less than filling your kitchen sink. " NB 6.5 L = 1.72 gallons. https://www.miele.com.au/domestic/1752.htm?info=200019017-ZPV 2. From CNet: " An Energy Star certified dishwasher can use as little as 3 gallons per load (around 11 litres), according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. In fact, an Energy Star certified dishwasher can save almost 5,000 gallons of water per year. " https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-much-water-do-dishwashers-use/ 3. Australia uses a slightly different rating system from the US: all dishwashers are rated for both energy and water efficiency. Water consumption is rated from one to six stars. The dishwashers are assessed on the amount of water needed to wash a load and on the average water usage per place setting. Both figures are available for each dishwasher on the WELS rating site. The lower the amount needed to wash a place setting, the higher the star rating. There are over 1000 dishwasher models rating 4 to 6 stars on the site, with water consumption per load ranging from 6.5 L to 14 L. (ie from 1.72 gallons to 3.70 gallons). The one and two stars obviously are the least efficient, especially in terms of water used per setting but the highest water consumption figure I could find belonged to a couple of two stars that use 19L for a full load. That's 5 gallons. http://www.waterrating.gov.au/choose/compare#dishwashers 4. These numbers are possible because, as I mentioned, dishwashers recycle the water they use throughout the washing cycle....See Morenewgen
