Hi Ed, probably everyone has a different story.

When I decided to start a veggie garden I didn't have room or materials for a decent compost heap, so when I read about worm farming it seemed to be a good fit.

I started with a COW, then got another donated and have since built 2 wheelie bin flow-throughs. A big advantage that I see now, is the continual stream of compost rather than having to wait then getting it all at once.

I can also choose how well processed I want it by either feeding it through a second time or not, though I am a bit undecided as I see benefits from both pure and 3/4 ready vermicopost.

For me it's total lack of smell.

I agree with Ed and it seams as you get interested in this you just migrate to other ways to use your unwanted waste products. I am 57 and would never have thought of this or any other "Tree Hugger" thing, now I find it stimulating to do and fun to come up with new ways to save the "Trash". All this is just a plus for my garden and flowers. I am retired now, because of health and this provides little things for me to do.

And I put all paper and organic waste in there, and it goes away! To be replaced with something the plants can really use. Which is just kinda cool.

Don't forget how much warmer and nicer it is to compost in the basement in winter

Vermicastings hold more water thus less flooding.
....................................thus less draught.
Vermicastings hold more life. More life is good.
Life reaches out and touches other life and they share or trade resources.
Vermicastings are coated with calcium and retain nutrients better than vermicompost.
Gardeners will pay $$$ for vermicompost, even more than for rabbit leavings.
