Coldframe to keep temps up?

I am new to vermicomposting and am considering a medium size vermicomposting system to provide organic fertilizer for my greenhouse plants. It stays quite cold for extended periods here in the winter, been below freezing for about a week now. Don't have electricity for heating pad or room in the greenhouse for the bin so I was thinking of placing my bin in the ground and using an old coldframe to cover it along with some hay bails on its sides for windbreaks and extra insulation. Does anyone think this will work or have any other suggestions? Thanks.

yes that will help, tho' I'm iclined to cover the surface of the bin with cardboard and put a wooden lid on it - they can stand pretty low temps, gathering in a crowd in the middle if it's too cold - they're not as active nor eat as much when too cold, but don't like it real hot either

I have a bin about 4' x 8' sitting on the ground that I load with freshly finished hot compost as I have it, filled as much as 3-4' deep by spring, and they have things worked over pretty well by the time I harvest the bulk of the material [including a lot of them] for the garden
