I have had multiple large worms bins for over five years, and have found virtually every creature I thought possible inside...This is a first for me, and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. Yesterday I checked on my bins and one of them had thousands of thrips that flew out and started swarming all over. I am 99.9 percent positive they are thrips...the same black type I have had on my roses in the past. They look like tiny black wasps with pointy abdomens.(They are definitely not springtails.) Some of them were breeding (stuck together from behind), and lots of them were biting!

They all came out of one bin, the other bins are fine. I have been feeding the same food in all of my bins, mostly juicer pulp and kitchen scraps. No yard waste.

What happened, and what do I do? Any experience with this, and how to get rid of them? Has anyone every tried spraying Neem oil around their worms? Will it hurt them?

HELP! If they're biting me, they must be bothering my worms!
