Not that I am aware of. They don't have the little 'suckers' that you are talking about - they will grow well on the ground and wrap around anything they can, but a telephone pole might be a stretch - try it - might work.

I have honeysuckles and I use my trusty stapler and some long staples to keep mine growing up my fence until they reach the top where they twine around each other. There is an adjustment on the stapler so that the staples will not go in the wood to far and squish the stems and also gives room for the stems to grow bigger. I do this with all my vines that doesn't have roots to grab the fence and it works really well. Got this idea from my sister who also do the same with her vines.
