It can't be to large, one of mine is 12 ft across! They should love the new "ranch". 1 lb of worms are not going to eat much at first when the are put into a new bed. They usually spread out and explore the new digs and then settle in and start eating. That may take a few days. That bed is big enough to keep one section free of food in case they need to get away from any soured food. Don't feed them to much! They are not pets that need to be fed all the time. Make sure that they eat most or all of the last food before feeding again.

sounds pretty big for average family needs, 1# of worms would take awhile to populate that for sure ..... for starters, 1# can consume about 1/2# a day, but the food has to be actively decomposing, meaning additions will take some time to be attractive to them, days for a new bin .... then if you're "pocket feeding", 1 day day here, next day there, why should they buzz over to the other corner every day?

it doesn't matter how big the bin is, provide the right conditions in one area, where the worms are and don't overfeed, eventually the bacterial cycle will be established and worm population will increase

also screen [even as fine as fly screen] can't contain worms if they want to migrate :)

I fed them on the Monday and Tuesday but i havn't fed again since and am watching and waiting.I grind up the food to get it to breakdown better/faster. I noticed that the food is now lightly spotted green/white and worms are now starting to arrive.I do pocket feed and i feed in a row around the bin so hopefully they wont have to travel far for their food.I only put in about 6-8oz of food per day right now.

Im not worried about the worms going anywhere,just flies etc. getting in.I currently have the bin indoors but im always worried that if someone leaves the door open that flies will get in.I hope being paranoid goes away.
