I don't put any paperboard in the bin that is printed with a slick surface. The paper will decompose, but the stuff on the surface that makes it slick won't.

I do and it causes no problems in mine. My theory is if it will soak up water then it is usable. I know a lot of people will dissagre with this but it works for me. jim

Because my town does extensive recycling no paper thrown out is waste. My worm population is big enough to handle my few tasty egg cartons, my few newly designed to be compostable salad containers from organic food stores, and the out side wrapper paper from Scott tissue to wrap kitchen scraps in. They get a few bits of corrigated cardboard, a few paper towel tube, a few sheets newspaper to hold kitchen scraps. The bulk of the cardboard and newspaper goes into the recycling or base material for lasagna garden. Due to not needing it for the worms, and me deeming it less tasty :-) All of the following goes into the town recycling bin: junk mail, office paper, cereal type boxes. I never put dryer lint or vaccume cleaner bag into my compost. The couple strands of long hair that somehow got into the bin have not lost strength and I wish they would go away.

equinoxequinox:What do you do with your dryer lint and Hoover contents? Can you put those in a regular compost pile???

I do not because I only want 100% organic items in there not wee baby bits o plastic. If I lived in a log cabin and owned nothing plastic but my hoover then I would compost the contents.
