I can't imagine the salt in even a large amount of the bean shells would have enough effect on the saltiness of the bin overall to kill worms ..... worms can take an amazing amount of abuse, but moisture level is the one critical variable - "flush" with water and you will likely kill any worms left - just try to maintain the right conditions and it'll work out

The COW manual said to flush some water through regularly... which I hadn't done, due to what I've read here, and because it's been producing a lot of leachate, which seems to be (SOB!) my worms having decomposed in the bottom tray.

Should I get new worms? There are so few adults in there, now.

I'm new to this but if it were me I'd remove the ones still alive and start a new bed for them. This way you know its safe, and the ones alive can create the new generation for you. Just a suggestion.

It wasn't the salt on the edamame, it was overheating.
