I haven't done it(yet), but I was googling the process as there is a wild hops that I need to dig up for my son. You should do it now before there is a lot of growth, digging around the crown and dividing it as needed to transplant. Robynpa, did you ever dig up your hops vine? I just got around this morning to digging up a wild one for my son and I hope it survives. The vines were already several feet long and in a big tangle. I couldn't get my shovel through the parent root and had to drive home to get some cutters after quite a struggle. What a pain! Should've done it sooner! I have yet to untangle the vines and plant the crown properly in a container. It seems to be a pretty hardy plant, so hopefully after a season or two, my son will have his own cones to use for home brewing. And I'd better get some, LOL!
