Sounds to me like they just slowed down in response to the temps. With the arrival of summer, you should see lots more activity, more growth and the ability to process lots more food. Though they won't die at 50-60 degree temperatures, they won't do much either.

Try crushed eggshell and a warmer enviro.

Both times I have started a new worm bin it has taken about a year to get it really going. Be patient and someday you will start to find that the food disappears faster. But for now do not feed them too much.

I would move them to a location with temps in the 70's. They will live in the cooler temps, but things just slow down as far as decomposition. The worms need the decompostion to make the food available to them.

I agree with being patient. I started my first bin last fall and was rather disappointed in how slowly they ate the food. Now, more than six months later, they're eating much more. It takes a while for a worm colony to become "established" -- that is, to a good balance between teh numbers of worms an dthe amount of food.
