yes, it's too wet and hot, you should always shelter it from rain, the moisture level needs to be strictly controlled

the next problem tho' is prolly the main one - worms eat the microbes that cause the decomposition of organic material, they do not eat the food waste [no teeth] - that microbial life takes a while to develop and should be in place before the worms are added, and in sparing amounts initially ... food waste is generally 85% water, and fruit and salad greens can be even higher

so you've created the perfect conditions for BSF [putrifaction rather than decomposition], and their presence will inhibit bacterial growth, meaning the worms have little or nothing to eat and the larva are in heaven .... you need to remove the larva, mix the food waste in so there's no clumps of it to putrify and none exposed on the surface, then hold off more feeding until you can't recognize anything except "bedding" ... and get it outta the rain

Bill, thanks for the recommendations. I have moved the bin into my garage and removed most of the stuff with the BSF larva. There were lots of worms on the underside of the lid. I think they may have been trying to escape. Most of the foodstock is already unrecognizable, so somebody is eating away. I'll let it settle until this weekend and check again to see if they need more food.

BSF are ravenous, they'll decompose food waste faster than anything under the right conditions - which are the wrong conditions for worms .... the ones on the lid were likely trying to get air and stay away from the larva, which they don't like
