Question about MG packaging

I bought two different packages of morning glories this year that said they were a "mix". What does this mean because the package shows 4 different color flowers so I assumed that when I planted them each plant would have 4 different shades of flowers.

I assume the seeds are mixed, duh, well why can't it tell me that on the package. And now that I think about it there were a couple seeds that were a different color, they must have been different color MG's. Well that's actually not right of them to do because if it's supposed to be a mix you would think they would at least make it an even mix.

    Hi,

Not sure exactly what you are asking.......

Your packages of seeds should bloom in a mix of colors, possibly including some colors that may not be shown in the picture on the seed packets.

Most packets of seeds listed as a mix DO NOT list the specific colors.

The drawback of using a packet of mixed seeds is that you may get blooms of mostly ONE color instead of a good mix of colors. This could be due to the blend that the seed company uses, or that the certain colors germinate better/quicker than others. Also, some colors may flower later than others. So you may only be seeing one color as the various plants start to flower, but other colors may show up as the season progresses and more of the other plants start to flower.

I rarely buy mixed color packets of seeds of most flowers because of that. :-)

    Hope this helps,
    Chris

I assumed that when I planted 1 MG seed(from a mixed pack), I would get a MG plant that had multiple different colors. I guess it was stupid of me to assume, but the package doesn't say anything but "mixed". The reason it's confusing also is the picture on the packet has a MG with different color flowers. I guess they don't make MG's like that?

Okay, I think you are/were expecting the various colors of flowers all on the same plant. Each plant will produce just one color of flowers.

If you sow 10 seeds you may get 1-10 different colors when the various plants reach flowering size......just one color per plant.

Few plants produce multiple flower colors like you are talking about.

However, the seeds are a mix/blend of the colors shown in the picture on the packets of seeds.

Ok thanks I got it now. What happened was the seeds I planted from several mixed bags all came up the same color, kind of bland looking in the yard now. Next year will be better now that I have a clue.

No problem. The "single color problem" is one of the reasons I rarely buy mixed seeds. I do on occasion IF that's all that's offered. LOL!

Forgot to mention this too regarding your first post: "And now that I think about it there were a couple seeds that were a different color, they must have been different color MG's."color=green>

Unfortunately the various colored seeds do NOT mean you will get different colored flowers from the different colors of seeds. I've had mixed colors of seeds in the SINGLE variety (one color) packets of seeds.

I will say that usually certain Morning Glory varieties do have single colors of seeds, but I don't recall many of those right off the top of my head. I think Flying Saucers, Scarlet O'Hara, Heavenly Blue do have seeds that are single colors respectively. Flying Saucers usually has white/cream colored seeds. And Heavenly Blue and Scarlet O'Hara are usually black seeded.

    Good Luck,
    Chris
