Should I fertilize?

Hi all,

Let me preface this by saying I am new to growing tomatoes. I started from seed, hardened off and finally planted the plants about two weeks ago. This is my first year gardening and am using this year as sort of a trial run, with the intention of putting a lot of prep time in during the fall for next years garden. So, when I planted my tomatoes, I dug out a large hole (2ft x 2ft), and sifted out the rocks. I mixed in with the soil sphagnum peat moss and store bought compost cow manure. I planted deep, and then watered with Neptune's Harvest Organic Fish/Seaweed Blend Fertilizer, mixed at the rate per the directions.

Since I have planted them, the weather has been lousy. Very cool and rainy. Temps have been generally in the 60s, with occasional day in the 70s. More rain coming today. And next week looks unsettled as well. About a week after planting, we had a very windy day which I could do nothing about. I'm sure the plants experienced some stress from that.

So, here I am today. The plants really haven't grown (I'm assuming from lack of sun and warmth), and the leaves at the bottom of the plant are yellowing. At first I thought it was the result of the wind. But now I'm wondering if it is nitrogen deficiency. And if that is the case, wondering what I should add. (I do have a generic 10-10-10 on hand).

If it is helpful, I got a soil sample done last year in order to help improve my lawn. The results are below. Please note that this sample is of the entire yard, and not just the garden area. Over the past year I have been adding large amounts of lime, and fertilizing fairly heavily.

soil ph 4.8

buffer ph 5.7

nitrogen 0 ppm

organic matter 6%

Phosphorus 8ppm

potassium 57 ppm

calcium 397 ppm

magnesium 47 ppm

cation exh cap 14.8 meg/100g

extractable aluminum 48 ppm

% base saturation: k= 0.9 mg= 2.3 Ca= 11.6

Hopefully this isn't information overload. I'm hoping someone can make sense of all this and point me in the right direction. I dont' know if I should leave things be, or add fertilizer. Now, if we could only influence mother nature................

Kim
