I have many COW's and they are now working well. It took some time to observe and adjust their conditions. Once I have a good population in the working uppermost trays, things go really well, but they do need to be monitored much more than my in-ground bins.

I like our wooden bin. It is in the back yard under some trees. It does dry out so I have to add water more than I think others on here do. Still planning what we are going to do here in a month or two when the weather turns cold.
Next year I plan on doing a smaller plastic bin buried in the ground half way for the dog doo, I hear it works great.

I have a stacking one, which is a 'wriggly ranch' which works great until I put the 2nd tray on, it seems to kill the airflow. I just started my 2nd one which is the rubbermaid roughtote but without drainage holes, no real opinion yet, but seems to be doing fine.

I have a plastic bin (an old trash can with lid that I bought at Rose's) that I drilled holes in. 16 holes in the bottom and 5 in the top. I put screen on the 5 on top.

It is a small bin, but then again, we just don't generate that much compost. I love it. I haven't had any worm escapees and the compost everything as needed.

Thanks for your encouragment with the C.O.W. At first I was worried about the lack of air in the lower levels but I had far too much bedding ... sorted that out and it seems to be working fine. Now I have kept that extra bedding just incase a handful of capsules were left behind.
