help in identifying a vine

We have what I used to think are wild grapes growing on our property. They start growth by shooting straight up on stems that can grow to be about 3/4" thick, and then once they get to be about 6-8 feet high (above the hedge line), they start to develop tendrils and they choke off other plants. Their leaves can get up to 8" across and they look like wild grape leaves (toothed edge, lobed). The reason I'm not sure they're grapes is that we've never seen any fruit in the 4 summers we've lived here. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
