I have made a few calls, and I hope to be manning a donation station as soon as the foundation can get established.

I gave to the Salvation Army. I think they have less administrative overhead than Red Cross so the money goes to the people that really need it. Also, donate DIRECTLY to a reputable organization such as Red Cross and Salvation Army. I learned the hard way that if you donate through a secondary organization they tend to skim a little off the top.

Yeah everyone screwed up. It was evident that the New Orleans officials should have had the insight to get the elderly and the sick out and those without transportation after the devastation. Knowing that the city is below sea level and that the storm surge could go over the levee or break it, they should have had a fleet of boats and airboats ready for rescue efforts.

Of course it is easy for me to criticize what they should have done as an afterthought so I'll shut up now and urge
everyone to pray for all of those affected by the storm including Miss. Alabama and give to the charities and church
organizations. Give now or volunteer to help answer the phones. Even one dollar or a few volunteer hours can make a difference. I volunteer a few hours a week at my wife's elementary school and I have seen the difference I have made.

On the same day I posted this, I also posted a similar plea for donations on the "Gardening in Texas" forum. After about 20 responses, that post was removed...although it was, in my opinion, topical. I found out that some responders to that post were e-mailed with instructions to not respond to it prior to its removal. Apparently, similarities exist with this post since it has remained dormant since Friday.

If that's true, it's a shame censureship has reached all the way to my worm bin.

I haven't recieved any responses concerning your post. We have, in fact, about 2200 refugees (i hate that word) here in B/CS and are helping them as much as possible. Surely, this forum would'nt get involved with an issue like that??

My last paycheck went south. I figure I have a credit card and they need it more than me. I'd feel great if others did the same :-)

i just signed me up to be a shelter volutnteer. Helped load a trailer of supplies earlier today. Red Cross online application seems to be a bit complicated, but I got it done :-)

I tried to sell some items via ebay, but they cancelled my auction because it had hurricane katrina in the heading.
I was going to give all the bidds to my local radio station that was giving a red cross drive (they got over 100,000) ebay has a process for donations, and it MUST go through them. I usually sell these items for between 1 and 4.00 but ebay's process takes a minimum of 10.00 for each donation winning bid.
