Let me be the first to answer. What I have learned most is that no matter what your read or hear your experiences will be somewhat different. Chuckie published a list a few days ago that allows you to search the past posts ( search box in the upper right hand corner) like a FAQ. I would look Chuckie's list up and copy it to a file. I find it very useful as a shortcut to information.
My worms are in several different kinds of bedding and all are doing okay. I have a 200 gallon container outside on top of the ground. One person said the worms will stop in cold weather. Everytime the temperature outside gets up to 40 degrees they are working the rabbit poop like crazy. And that is after one week below freezing. See why I say everyone's experiences will be different.

When I first got my worms, I was, like everyone else here who comes face to face with the prospect of being responsible for the well-being of a squirm of worms, scared casting-less.

The main thing I learned, at first, is there are some good people out here who can, and will, help. The second thing I learned is that it ain't rocket science. The third thing I learned...right after I crispied a small bin of worms totally dependent on me not to do so...was that maybe it IS rocket science.

BUT, the best thing I've learned is that worming will make a person a better person. Worming makes people become more atuned to nature. Considerate. Patient. Humble (Nothing humbles you like being elbow deep in a pile of worm dung trying to get someone in the house to come out and open your beer and wipe the sweat off your glasses.)

If everyone had a worm bin, the world would be knee deep in vermicastings, and a better place.

200 gallon container!!!! Are you compensating for anything???

I plan on selling worms to the local bait shops. There are several lakes and rivers in the area and lots of fisherman. The container was used for watering horses and since I moved there are no horses. Not allowed in the city limits. I decided to use the container for worms instead of selling it at a garage sale for probably very little.
