How to kill and stop weeds growing back.

Hello to you all. Im new to gardening and this forum, iv recently rented a home that has some serious weed problems.
The weeds are growing pretty much everywere in the back garden but my main concern is the weeds growing up from the cracks of the brick patio.
Iv spent all day pulling up what i could but although i am a beginner, i know full well that these weeds will grow back.
So iv decided to ask for your help.
Iv posted a picture so you can all see what im dealing with here.
My first plan was to pull up the weeds and then find some sort of sealant to seal the gaps between the bricks so the weeds could not grow back there, but after taking a closer look i then realised the cracks are full of mud, (duh).
So now im not sure what to do. Pulling up the bricks is not an option but i dont mind putting in the work to fix this problem.
I would ideally love to get rid of the weeds AND the soil filled cracks.
Any help would be much appreciated. But remember im new to this so please be very detailed and suggest products/tools that may help.

A lot of common weeds are very good for you(medicinal).. I would not fight them, god put them under your feet for a reason, you need the weeds..

On another note, you probably think I'm nuts.. If younsent to eliminate weeds pull them out by the roots before they go to seed/flower, just keep pulling them out, youll eventually not have weeds.. Also mulch thickly with leaves/ compost whatever, mulch smother weeds,etc... Pull weeds out by the roots, mulch thickly, your problem would be gone in no time!

That "mud" between the bricks may be sand or the newer polymer material that helps keep the bricks in place. Over time organic matter collects on this material and that is what these unwanted plants root in. What is really needed is to pick up those bricks, clean out all of that sand or polymer, put the bricks back and refill the gaps with fresh material. Short of that you can try cleaning out some of that material, an inch or so, and then refilling with clean material and that should give you a year of no unwanted growth between the bricks.
Maybe spraying some kind of plant poison will be of some help, although what I have seen is that you will need to reapply them every 6 weeks or so.

sye, this sound like a job for a spray bottle of RoundUp RTU. You can purchase the product at any garden center; it's already mixed up and ready to use. Read and follow all directions carefully for best results. You only need a tiny bit for get the job done. Apply on a sunny day, in the morning preferably. It may take a day or two for the systemic herbicide to kill the weed all the way to the roots.

You can also try a spray bottle with pure vinegar...on the hot sunny day...to see if that burns the weeds. Vinegar won't kill the roots, though.

Please, please don't pull apart the patio in order to clean the bricks! It will never be the same again.
