Well, after finding some more of this stuff growing along our back fence, I know it's actually a nasty briar vine...not virginia creeper. I saw some vc in the woods across from my parents home today. What I have isn't vc. The young briar stems on my back fence don't have thorns yet, but develope them as they get older apparently.

*sigh*.... just another weed to get rid of, looks like.

I agree with Tyrlych, it is vc. I know of nothing else that resembles vc except poison ivy and it's not poison ivy.

I must say tho I'm confused about the briars.

I'll allow it to grow for a while and see what I get. Not the stuff by the back fence that has briars on it, but the little bit that I have contained. (the plant in the pic.) If it is indeed, vc, that's fine...I think vc is a lovely grouncover.

I'd have to say, that is DEFINATELY NOT Virginia Creeper. Yes--- VC does have 5 pointy leaves, but the leaves are not as toothed as the leaves in the pic. I grow virginia creeper all over my yard for the birds, and it DOES NOT look like that pic.

Cydonia~ thanks. I didn't think so, either. Not after I found the same type of plant growing in our backyard, with all the prickly stems. Must just have to mature before it starts getting those little thorns on it. Guess it'll have to go. It's in my rose bed..don't want it getting out of hand.
