Look what my dogs treed

I heard my dogs barking and saw something in our pecan tree that I thought was a possum at first:

First time I've ever seen a groundhog(?) in a tree. My dogs were inside our fenced back yard and he was outside the fence but I think he climbed up the tree when they started barking at him. I took the dogs in the house and 10 minutes later he was gone again so I guess they can climb down too.

When I was looking up on the computer whether groundhogs normally climb trees, I came across a couple links that said rabbits can climb trees. That would've surprised me even more. I had no idea.

Neat pics. Seeing is believing, but, never saw a woodchuck in a tree before. Now a rabbit, that I gotta see too.

I have had this happen myself, and was also pretty shocked at the time, but if they can't get to their burrows or better cover fast enough, a tree will do, and they can shimmy right up fairly well. Was the chuck making any shrill noises or popping its teeth at them? Course if your dogs were going berserk then it was probably hard to hear anything....
I read that one of our foxes-can't recall if it's a grey or a red, think it was the grey-- is a skilled climber too, and loves bird nests.

That is really cool. Thanks for sharing. I suppose fear will drive you to do most anything!! I have heard that dogs are their natural enemy.

Speaking of foxes, did you guys watch that thing on PBS last Sunday about the origin of dogs? Very interesting. Part 2 is this week.

Vonyon, I did not know about that! I missed the show last week, but will try to catch Part 2 Sunday.

I just spent about an hour on the PBS website for the show. Excellent.
