Susan, unless every bit of root is removed, it will just resprout. It can be a tough one to eradicate.

Cut them down and use stump killer on the cut off spots.....or a "stump killing" concentration of Round Up....read the label on the bottle of concentrate.
Now....tell me how to get rid of virginia creeper....that is creeping through a flower bed.

Tordon...it has worked wonders on the fence lines and pastures on our place. You can get it at any farm and home supply store...be very careful with it as it will kill any woody plant (trees that you want to keep) in it's path if there is even a breeze...only get it on the plant to be snuffed out...it will do the job. Other than that I can only suggest goats cause they eat everything. Multiflora rose seemed like a good idea at the time much like the folks in the south thought kudzu would solve their problem.

If you wait long enough there is a mite that carries a disease that will kill multiflora roses. What the people that released it did not understand was that alot of gardeners roses have multiflora rose in their background somewhere and in areas like mine that the 'wild' muliflora roses are about gone so are some of mine tame roses.
