Hi Jan,
Using a trowel to dig, make sure you get the bulby part out. If you just pull off the tops, they will come back. You don't need to worry about the little white roots, just the bulby part. They do come out a lot easier too if the ground is moist.
Now, there could be more that sprout up, but they are easy to remove when small.

A big reminder is to cut the flower head off early before it starts to fall apart. You can add to salads, soups etc.

If you leave the flowers on the more chives you will have.
