Compare your plant to Artemesia vulgaris, mugwort.

This could be. This plant is a little lie mum. If I rub the leaves, it has some kind of smells, like some kind of herbs.

It is also weedy in our lawn and under trees. We have to use broadleaf kills to treat them.

Mugwort spreads by underground runners, and I mean WAY underground - I've found roots down over a foot. It is a royal PITA to get rid of, and I wish you the best of luck. I recommend that you use gloves to pull it up,if you do so, as it can be very irritating to the skin.

It covers a big portion of the open land, along with the goldenrod and milkweed. It has not caused any problem. We apply weedkiller twice a year and spot spray the broadleave plants. It only comes at the places we do not treat.
