weedy woods and ravine

I'm trying to post a pic of a tremendous problem area that is the town land next to our side/back yard. The yard is built into a hill, so it slopes drastically outside of our fence. The vines are choking all trees in the woods and are filling up the entire ravine, encroaching on our property. I've never seen anything like it (we bought the property in winter and didn't know how bad the vegetation gets in summer). How do I go about controlling massive weeds (dinner plate sized leaves), falling trees on a steep slope? HELP!

You don't. You can only legally cut vegetation that hangs over your property line. Why do you care what happens on the town land?

Because the vines are killing the trees which are literally falling into my yard (and crushing property in the process). Plus, the dense vegetation creates a problem with mold and bugs from the lack of ventilation.

But the plants and trees also help hold the slope in place and keeps you and your neighbors houses in place.

Is it kudzu? I would let the town government know. Vines, including ivy, can end up smothering trees depending on the vine. There is a difference between dense vegetation and destructive invasives. Maybe it could turn into a clean-up project for the neighborhood or entire town. Getting rid of the weeds and planting nicer understory plants would be great and heaqlthy for the trees.
