Looks like a seedling Empress tree, aka Paulownia. If so, the leaf stem should be hollow.

Because it's a seedling, it won't flower -- that is, if you keep it -- for a number of years. Even then, it's likely not to flower, this because the flower buds form in fall, then are damaged by frost before the time they would normally open in spring.

Further, in your region, it likely dies to the ground each winter, but arises anew in spring.

Thanks for the thought, but I'm not so sure. I then looked up Empress tree, and the leaves don't look the same as on my plant. They aren't as big from what I read. Also, there are no branches growing, only the leaves off of a stalk. But yes, the stalks are hollow, about an inch in diameter.

That's definitely a paulownia. There's a few large one just 's a few hundred yards from my house and the seedlings sprout up every year along the road where I live. I've yanked over 100 from my yard this summer.

I just went out and looked at one more closely and it looks just like your pictures. They don't branch and they have a speckled trunk while the leaf stalks remain distinctly green.

It's possible there's some variation from tree to tree. The rapid growth you mention is a dead give-away.

To me, it looks like a Catalpa--- often confused with the empress tree. I tried to post an image, but don't know how.

I agree with cydonia33, it looks like a Catalpa. If you google image it you should come up with some good pictures. The leaves will grow very large on a Catalpa, especially if it gets cut back and regrows from a big root root system.
