I have a large area in the front of my yard that is a mulched shade garden with a heavily wood-chipped area that extends to the road. I was considering raking up the chips and applying grass seed but am now wondering if there is another way to avoid lots of weeding. Since I had several inches of wood chips laid last autumn, the weeds and tree seedlings weren't nearly as bad this year. But I am starting to feel like a slave to Round-Up (blech) and was wondering if I spread a product like corn meal gluten, if that would work as a pre-emergent on wood chips. It seems to be mainly indicated for lawn use, and I was wondering if anyone else has had success with this product in other areas of gardening. Thanks in advance!
