Spreading Weed with Purple Flowers

Hi!

I'm really hoping someone will be able to help! We moved into this house 2 years ago and have had a terrible time keeping up with the weed covered backyard. We have a majority of bermuda grass mixed with dollarweed, dallisgrass, and others. The latest that seems to be taking over is this ground cover stuff with little purple flowers that bloomed after my husband cut the grass last Sunday. I have included a picture. I hope someone knows how to get rid of this stuff!

Could you repost a picture of a single stem with both foliage and flowers? First picture is pretty fuzzy.

It looks live vinca from the picture, but need a good close up as requested.

Looking at the foliage and flower, I would go with some spp. of Tradescantia.

It's spreading or common Dayflower...Commelina diffusa.

I thought the flowers looked like Tradescantia (Spiderwort,) but didn't recognize the short foliage. After reading again, I see that it was mowed. Don't all of the Commelinas have 2-petaled flowers? Tradescantia is very happy in 1 corner of my yard and I mow around the clumps of it, which get bigger every year. In a couple years, I think it will have taken over that corner and I won't have to mow there anymore. It looks so pretty when it blooms, and the blooming period is very long.
