When I first saw the picture I instantly thought of Kikuyugrass - only problem is that it grows in California and Hawaii, not zone 4/5 Iowa. Zoysia is similar - not for zone 4/5. Bermuda and nimblewill have similar growth habit, but certainly aren't this plant. Will be watching! :)

This is what the previous owners planted as zoysia. I have managed to kill much of it by pulling each of the runners. A word of caution during the active growing state if I touch the pointed end it acts as if I was stung by a bug. Red welt and itching. Others may not have this reaction but have her watch it.

Have been told both that it is and is not zoysia. I live in a transition area between 5-6 but they have zoysia's that will live but go dormant with the first coolness.
